∙ 9y agoThere is a link to a map of important pilgrimage routes in Western Europe below. The map purportedly is for the Way of St. James, but it shows much more. The Way of St. James is thought of as being in Spain, but it started all over and led along many different roads that gradually converged in Spain, at the Cathedral of Santiago de Compostela. Many of the roads used in for a pilgrimage to this cathedral also went to Canterbury, Paris, Chartres, Turin, Padua, and Rome. Pilgrims, going to different destinations would pass each other on these roads as they went in opposite directions.
