There are too many to list, but one of the false prophets in the Old Testament is Balaam, who was a 'profit-for-hire' and would do anything for the money [see Numbers chapters 22-24]:

2Pe 2:15 Which have forsaken the right way, and are gone astray, following the way of Balaam the son of Bosor, who loved the wages of unrighteousness;

Jud 1:11 Woe to them! For they went the way of Cain, and gave themselves up to the error ofBalaam for reward, and perished in the gainsaying of Korah.

Jud 1:11 CEV Now they are in for real trouble. They have followed Cain's example and have made the same mistake that Balaam did by caring only for money. They have also rebelled against God, just as Korah did. Because of all this, they will be destroyed.

However, Balaam wasn't the only one, and there both have been and will be many more:-

2Pe 2:1-3 KJV But there were false prophetsalso among the people, even as there shall be false teachers among you, who privily shall bring indamnable heresies, even denying the Lord that bought them, and bring upon themselves swift destruction. (v.2) And many shall follow their pernicious ways; by reason of whom the way of truth shall be evil spoken of. (v.3) And through covetousness shall they with feigned words make merchandise of you: whose judgment now of a long time lingereth not, and their damnation slumbereth not.

A false prophet is one who does not have God's Holy Spirit and denies that Jesus is God in the flesh:-

1Jo 4:1-3 MKJV Beloved, do not believe every spirit, but try the spirits to see if they are of God, because many false prophets have gone out into the world. (v.2) By this you know the Spirit of God: every spirit that confesses that Jesus Christ has come in the flesh is of God; (v.3) and every spirit that does not confess that Jesus Christ has come in the flesh is not of God....

People who preach hate.

According to The Bible it is people who either preach false doctrine or who state that God has said something will happen and it doesn't. One example of the latter is the prediction of a second term of office for George Bush senior against Bill Clinton. We know who won.

Type your answer here...DOES ANYONE REALLY KNOW.Any one, who wiilingly leads another in to believing Christ would promote evil, and teach false doctrins in the name of Jesus is a false prophet, and subjects himself to hell.Read your Bible, to know the truth. The Bible isn't a work of fiction,as some would like you to believe. It is not a fairy story,as most collages teach,or a myth.God is real,he is not dead.God sais to test the truth for your self.Let your conscience be your guide.Use comman scence, youre intuition, is you're best weapon against satan. If it feels wrong, then it usualiy is wrong.Have you ever met a person, and instantly disliked the vibe comming off that person? That is a built mechanism God instilled in you to Recognise evils presence. That doesn't meen that person is evil, that meens evil is present. That person may not even know evil has latched on to them, but if you are a Christian,God reveals it to those who are faithfull.False prophets know what they are doing,However;they choose to ignore everthing God told them not to do,and chooses to lead any one who would believe in false miracles, and signs, right down with them.God doesn't do parlor tricks,or perform like a circus pony.If God performs miracles, you will know it.God lets you suffer,to make you stronger in the spirit. He tested Job,and trippled his household, and goods because he was faithfull.God doesn't want you to suffer, but in doing so you become stronger through him.God doesn't favor one from another, and if Job can be tested, who are you to question God?

When Paul wrote of false apostles, he was clearly speaking of those who taught a different gospel, or a different Christ - when he disagreed with the Jerusalem Church, he seemed to have ironically used the term, chief apostles. There is some evidence that at least some of Paul's opponents were Gnostic Christians. Mark, Matthew and Luke also spoke of false prophets. In each case, the "false prophets" seem to have been those whose theology differed strongly from that of the evangelists. Luke mentioned one by name, "Bar-jesus" (Acts 13:6). It seems likely that Bar-jesus never really existed, but that he represented Gnostic Christians in Luke's polemic.

Answer 1
The most well-known example (according to Jewish belief) was Jesus Christ, as no true prophet would tell the people that God has abandoned the Jewish nation (Deut. 13)

Answer 2
While Jesus was a False Messiah according to Judaism, he was not considered a prophet by either Jewish or Christian communities (as a Prophet is not the same as a Messiah). It would be only be the advent of Islam that would recast Jesus as a Prophet, in which context his rejection in Judaism could be "false prophecy".

However, we need not "reach" to Jesus to find False Prophets. Some less controversial False Prophets can also be found in the Bible. The courtiers of Pharaoh who supposedly received revelation from Amon Re were false prophets (Exodus Ch. 7-11). Balaam, although he did actually perform prophecy, used it for wicked purposes (Numbers Ch. 22-24). There were also the 450 Prophets of Ba'al in the story of Elijah who were false prophets (1 Kings Ch. 18). Finally, there is the prophet Hananiah who opposed Jeremiah (Jeremiah Ch. 28).

Revelation chapter 13 calls him "another Beast" [Rev.13:11].

A "prophet" is a "religious figure"... either a legitimate "Prophet of God" or a "false prophet" [i.e. Deut.18:20 & Acts 13:6].

The "False Prophet" the Bible speaks of in the last days [of man's rule on earth]... shall be the leader of a powerful religious organization in close association with the "fourth Beast" of Daniel's 7th chapter dream; which history reveals to be the Roman Empire.

The power wielded by this religious organization [or 'church'] is detailed in Revelation 17. Religious bodies [churches] are symbolized as "women" in the Bible... beit the True Church of God [His Wife - see Eph.5] or somewhat less-than-pure women, like the "whore" in Revelation 17. Along with her "harlot daughters" to which she gave birth [other protesting false churches who separated from her -- Rev.17:5].

The "False Prophet's" close association with the fourth Beast, the fourth major world-ruling empire in history, the Roman Empire [later called the HOLY Roman Empire], is intended to supply the wise, understanding reader with the identity of who he is -- or more exactly... who he shall be when the time comes in the last days of their centuries-long collusion.

Revelation 13 tells us that this "other Beast" will have "two horns like a lamb" [he appears 'Christ-like'... or to 'represent Christ'] but... his words are "anti-Christ." He speaks things "opposite" to what Christ says. False, deceitful, SATANIC things: "...he spake as a Dragon..." [Rev.13:11; see also Rev.12:9]:

"...the great Dragon... that Old Serpent, called the Devil, and Satan, which deceiveth the whole world...".

He will be given POWER by the Dragon [Satan] to work "miracles" and perform "lying wonders." Powers channeled through him from the First Beast, who according to the account, is always present when the False Prophet "does his thing."

"...he... deceiveth them that dwell on the earth by the means of those miracles WHICH HE HAD THE POWER TO DO IN THE SIGHT OF THE BEAST..." (Rev.13:13-14).

The Beast will have to be present when the False Prophet works his miracles.

Most people, today, remain unaware of this prophesied "DUO" [the Beast and False Prophet] who will rule the world together during the Great Tribulation. Instead... a modern global deception has people looking for "the Antichrist" -- a supposed LONE man... which is a fable.

Who these TWO men shall be, won't be revealed until the time of the end... when the panicking nations lost in the depths of global economic collapse and social upheaval [sooner than we think?] will desperately be seeking someone to save them.

Then, the Beast will rise to the occasion... and the False Prophet will cause the nations TO WORSHIP THE BEAST.

"...he [the False Prophet] exerciseth all the power of the First Beast before him[again, he will use all the powers of Satan channeled through the Beast into him... always in the Beast's presence], and CAUSETH THE EARTH AND THEM WHICH DWELL THEREIN TO WORSHIP THE FIRST BEAST..." (Rev.13:12).

The False Prophet will be a "powerful miracle-working worldwide religious leader" who has the power to CAUSE PEOPLE TO WORSHIP! He tells folks who is worthy to bow down to in idolatrous worship and adoration.

He will be one of a "pair" for which God's servants should be looking -- not "THE" one-and-only "Antichrist."

As an aside, and something to keep in mind for future reference: when the time comes... the False Prophet and Beast may be so well loved by the deceived world... that they may well convince the world that God's "Two Witnesses" [see Rev.11] are the Beast and False Prophet.

It won't be "the Antichrist" whom Jesus will cast into the Lake of Fire when He returns to earth making war -- it will be TWO MEN!

"And the Beast was taken, and with him the False Prophet that wrought miracles before him... THESE BOTH were cast alive into a Lake of Fire burning with brimstone." (Rev.19:20)

Satan is the false prophet who shall deceive the nations

Revelation 20

2 And he laid hold on the dragon, that old serpent, which is the Devil, and Satan, and bound him a thousand years,

3 And cast him into the bottomless pit, and shut him up, and set a seal upon him, that he should deceive the nations no more, till the thousand years should be fulfilled: and after that he must be loosed a little season.

The Misunderstanding:

Some people refer to an Anti-Christ coming, however the word Anti-Christ is not written in the book of Revelation. This is because Satan shall proclaim himself to be Immanual (God with us) 2 Thessalonians 2, therefore he shall not deny the Father or Christ as stated in 1 John 2. Revelation 13 additionally states he looks like the lamb (Jesus Christ). Daniel 11 states he comes peaceably spreading the spoils and the wealth. Revelation 13 states further, he shall work miracles in the sight of humans to deceive them.

Opponents of Paul in 2 Corinthians 11:13. These prophets preached a "rival Jesus" and possessed a self seeking motivation evidenced by a different lifestyle than Paul's and believed a different Gospel. These false prophets were Jewish Christians, well trained in speech, who perhaps claimed "visions and revelations of the Lord" as authenticating marks of apostleship. There were also imposters claiming to be the Messiah.

  1. Theudas, who appeared when Fadus was procurator (A.D. 44-46); he summoned the people to the Jordan River wilderness, promising that he would divide the Jordan like Joshua and begin a new conquest of the land.
  2. various "imposters' during the term of Felix (A.D. 52-59) led crowds into the wilderness with promises of signs and wonders.
  3. an "imposter" during the term of Festus (A.D. 60-62) who promised deliverance and freedom from the miseries of Roman rule for those who would follow him into the wilderness.
  4. Manahem ben Judah (alias "the Galilean"), during the term of Florus (A.D. 64-66), who came to Jerusalem "like a king" and laid seige to the city.

These messianic imposters and the barely distinguishable false prophets repeatedly urged the Jewish people to take up armed resistance to Rome or to stay in Jerusalem and fight. In contrast, Jesus urged His disciples to attempt to save themselves by fleeing the city. Some interpreters expect false christs to arise before the future coming of Christ.
