August Krogh- In 1920 August Krogh was awarded the Nobel Prize in Physiology or Medicine for the discovery of the mechanism of regulation of the capillaries in skeletal muscle. Krogh was first to describe the adaptation of blood perfusion in muscle and other organs according to demands through opening and closing the arterioles and capillaries. JS Haldane- John Scott Haldane helped find out how to determine the regulation of breathing and discovered the Haldane effect in hemoglobin. He was the founder of The Journal of Hygiene. In 1907 Haldane made a decompression apparatus to help make deep-sea divers safer and produced the first decompression tables after extensive experiments with animals.[1][2][3] He was also an authority on the effects of pulmonary diseases, such as silicosis caused by inhaling silica dust Walter Cannon- studied effect of SNS during exercise D.B. Dill- directed the Harvard fatigue lab which studied exercise and environmental physiology Per Olof Astrand- studied cardiac output and max heart rate during exercise
