The "Four Horsemen" are:-

  1. Deception -White horse (Rev 6:2) (also referred to as False Christ; Antichrist; Conquest)
  2. War - Red horse (Rev 6:4)
  3. Famine - Black horse (Rev 6:5-6) (Sometimes known as the Horseman of Commerce. This is the guy who was selling quarts of barley for a day's wages.)
  4. Death. - Pale horse (Rev 6:8-9)

Deception or False Religion, War, Famine and Pestilence.

ANOTHER ANSWER:

It's not "who," but "what" are they.

The "Four Horsemen" of the Apocalypse [Revelation] are exposed in the 6th chapter of the book of Revelation as the "first four seals" that Jesus strips away from the "book" or "scroll." Like the other "three" of the "seven seals"... none of them are a "who"... but a "what."

They are each [or shall be in the future, as is the case of the last three, seals 5 thru 7] a GLOBAL OCCURRENCE that shall prevail on the earth, that will be signs for Christ's servants to watch for to know when Christ will return.

"The Revelation of Jesus Christ, which God [the Father] gave unto Him, to SHEW UNTO HIS SERVANTS things which MUST SHORTLY COME TO PASS..." (Rev.1:1 KJV)

The Seventh Seal, for instance is the only one NOT STRIPPED AWAY IN REVELATION's chapter 6. Therefore, it's the last seal, which pictures the prophesied "Day of the LORD;" the Day in which Jesus returns to take over the world, and save it and mankind from utter destruction.

The "Four Horsemen" are the first four seals, or "prevailing global conditions" that shall appertain on earth until they precipitate the "FIFTH SEAL" [the Great Tribulation; the concentrated global persecution of God's True church on earth by all the nations].

As explained above... these "prevailing conditions" on earth are "false religion" [including false Christianity], "wars" [that are more often than not begun for religious reasons; witness the global religious war going on now among the nations of the world], "famines" [which naturally follow on the heels of war, as well as irregular weather patterns, which God says He controls - see Lev.26:3-4], and "pestilences and diseases" [which also are the result of death, destruction, and the piling up of bodies].

Of these "Four Horsemen," Jesus tells us: " 'All these are THE BEGINNING OF SORROWS.'" (Matt.24:8 KJV)

These are the normal, everyday, run-of-the-mill things that make up "life on planet earth." The "Four Horsemen" have been riding back and forth across planet earth since Adam and Eve chose the god of this world to worship and obey in the Garden of Eden... instead of choosing to obey their Creator, Jesus Christ [the WORD of God - see John 1:1-3].

It's these "prevailing world conditions" of the Four Horsemen [false religion, war, famine, disease] that shall grow in terrifying intensity, as well as in man's inability to control the leaping technological advances he keeps improving on in his war-making capabilities -- until these Four Horsemen launch the world into the time of "unprecedented distress and horror" that Jesus calls: "GREAT TRIBULATION!"

"For then shall be GREAT TRIBULATION, such as was not since the beginning of the world to this time, no, nor ever shall be [again]. And except those days SHOULD BE SHORTENED, THERE SHOULD NO FLESH BE SAVED: but for the elect's sake those days shall be shortened." (Matt.24:21-22 KJV)

The [NLT] "New Living Translation" says: "For it will be a time of GREATER HORROR than anything the world has ever seen or will ever see again. In fact, unless that time of calamity is shortened, THE ENTIRE HUMAN RACE WILL BE DESTROYED. But it will be shortened for the sake of God's chosen ones."

The [LVB] "Living Bible" says: "For there will be PERSECUTION such as the world has never before seen in all history, and will never see again. In fact, unless those days are shortened, ALL MANKIND WILL PERISH. But they will be shortened for the sake of God's chosen people."

THIS is where the Four Horsemen are leading the world, today... our world's religions, our wars, our famines and our diseases. It's all getting WORSE AND WORSE. The world population is growing; and arguing, and fighting, and starving, and suffering , and dying. The mind-boggling global economy is stretched beyond all logical limits... and can burst at any given second; sending the nations into utter collapse.

The Bible, in some prophecies, refers to the "Fifth Seal," to which these "Horsemen" are leading, as a time of "birth pains," because God's plan is all leading toward "the birth of the First Generation of His Divine Immortal Family" through the people God calls "His elect"... or "saints"... whom Jesus SHALL DELIVER!

That's why "Weymouth's New Testament" [WEY] says of the Four Horsemen: "...ALL THESE MISERIES are but THE EARLY PAINS OF CHILDBIRTH." (Matt.24:8 WEY)

That's WHAT the Four Horsemen are. They're "daily life on planet earth," that are leading the world into the "Fifth Seal" [the Great Tribulation]; the "Sixth Seal" [heavenly signs, the darkening of the sun and moon, etc.] that shall cut short the Great Tribulation from ending all life on earth; and the "Seventh Seal" [the Day of the LORD... the Day that Jesus returns to earth in His WRATH!

There are no Horsemen mentioned in Revelation 6

Its a common mistake people make to refer to horsemen, however the actual texts refers to horses specifically. Why horses? Because they were often used in battle, and very difficult and deadly for foot soldiers to fight against.

In the prophecy are given 4 horses (not horsemen)

White - Satan as the fake Jesus comes first (even his bow is called fake or toxin in the Greek)

Red - War (be careful as Christ gives you two types of war)

Antithetical war (nation or in the Greek Enos vs Ethos), Ethnic waring

Physical war (Kingdom VS Kingdom)

Black - Represents financial failure (ingredients for a loaf or bread, will cost a working mans days wage) This could be inflation, taxation, FIAT currency failure or a mixture of all. Further, refers to the two witnesses of Revelation 11

Pale (the actual Greek word is the base word for Chloroform) so its actually a pale green horse. This horse refers directly to Revelation 9 and the emergence of Satan and his locust army who will deceive all who do not have the seal of our Father in their foreheads.

Notice that in these entire series of events and all the other series of events, trumpets, Vials, there is no Rapture given. Thats because there will be no rapture according to the word.

So should you look for horses? .... These all mark events as others have stated above, which occur (actually they are occurring as we converse) they are part of the final acts of this 2nd iteration of earth (see 2nd Peter 3).

You are given 7 Seals, 7 Trumpets, 7 Vials, but you are not given the 7 thunders (those are ordered to be sealed). With these 3 occurrences of 7 events, you will discover all of them occurring in sequence 6 are about the fake Jesus (or Anti Christ), and all of them occurring in sequence 7 are about the true Christ. Therefore you have 666 (Satan as Anti-Christ) and 777 (the one true Christ).

Christ will break them out again in Matthew 24, Mark 13, Luke 21, where he will also identify the generation which they occur within (fig - See Jeremiah 24). That generation started in 1948. Generation lengths are given in Psalm 90 and Genesis 6) as 70, 80, and 120 years. Making the key dates 2018, 2028 and 2048, I know ... They are very close.

Remember this does not mean things will happen on a specific day, its just the timeframe of key generations that effect us living in the final generation.

Answer also: The Apocalypse, or the Revelation, is the last book of the Christian Greek Scriptures, usually called the New Testament. The ride of the four horsemen is of worldwide significance, for it is part of a "sign" marking where the human family is on the stream of time. It indicates that we are in what the disciples of Jesus called "the conclusion of the system of things." (Matthew 24:3) That it is a "sign" is stated for us in the opening verse of the Revelation, where we read: "A revelation by Jesus Christ, which God gave him, to show his slaves the things that must shortly take place. And he sent forth his angel and presented it in signs through him to his slave John."-Revelation 1:1.

The ride of the four horsemen is set forth in Revelation 6:1-8. Interestingly, whereas the New World Translation uses the expression "presented it in signs" and thus corresponds with Rotherham's The Emphasised New Testament, the expression "signified it" is used by the King James Version, or Authorized Version of 1611, B. Wilson's The Emphatic Diaglott and Young's Literal Translation of the Holy Bible. True to those introductory words, the last book of the Bible, the Revelation, is just full of signs, symbolisms significant of things of far greater importance in human history. These were to take place in the future, "shortly."

There are no historic developments to prove that those things came to reality during the 18 centuries after the death of the apostle John, about 98 C.E., and so, now, our attention focuses upon the current 20th century C.E. Doing so, we find that it has remained for us of this exciting century to enter into the happiness to which the inspired apostle pointed forward, when he wrote: "Happy is he who reads aloud and those who hear the words of this prophecy, and who observe the things written in it; for the appointed time is near." (Revelation 1:3)

In Revelation chapter 6 appears the account of what has been called the ride of "the four horsemen of the Apocalypse." Appearing first is the rider of "a white horse," the glorified Jesus Christ, going forth to make war against his foes. This he was authorized by God to do at the end of the Gentile Times, when Jesus' foes in heaven and on earth should have submitted to his rule.-Psalm 2:1-12.

The rider on the "fiery-colored" second horse pictured international war, for a military weapon, "a great sword," was given to him. On the third mount, "a black horse," was a rider picturing food shortage. How do we know this? Because he carried a pair of scales with which to measure out basic food supplies at inflated prices. The fourth rider, on a sickly-looking "pale horse," pictured pestilence, for the account says: "The one seated upon it had the name Death. And Hades [the grave] was closely following him." True, this fourth rider was given authority "to kill with a long sword" of war "and with food shortage . . . and by the wild beasts of the earth." Notably, though, he was also authorized to make victims for the grave (Hades) by means of "deadly plague."-Revelation 6:1-8.

The four horsemen are dead souls sent by the Devil. They show up when stuff starts to fail or having wars. The four horsemen are souls that have a special ability that we need or will die without and have been galloping since the world started.

The white horse: Pestilence they believe the diseases started happening when this horse men started riding. Example: Bubonic Plague, H1N1 and more.

The red horse: War they believe when this horsemen started riding wars started to happen. Example: Revolutionary War, Civil War, WWI WWII, Vietnam War, Gulf War (Desert Storm) Iraq War.

The black horse: Famine they believe when people started starving Famine was riding. Example: The Irish had their main crop wiped out 1 million people starved and died.

The pale horse: Death they believe Death has been riding since the start of time, Hades follows Death.

Another answer:Bible prophecy enables us to see what lies behind certain historical events. Jesus Christ foretold a time when 'nation would rise against nation' and food shortages and pestilences would sweep through the earth. (Matthew 24:3, 7; Luke 21:10, 11) He told his disciples that such calamities would form a sign of the last days. In the Bible the book of Revelation describes four horsemen sometimes called the four horsemen of the Apocalypse. Three of these horsemen depict the same disasters Jesus had earlier foretold-war, famine and pestilence.

The white horse, whose rider is a heavenly king. The King, Jesus Christ himself, is the one who rides in the cause of righteousness. (Psalm 45:4) His first task is to rid the heavens of Satan and his demons.-Revelation 6:2; 12:9.

The fiery-colored horse, whose rider has authority "to take peace away from the earth." (Revelation 6:4) Since 1914, war has constantly plagued mankind. Just 21 years after World War I ended, a second world war broke out, killing far more people. One estimate says that World War II cost some 60 million lives. Since 1945, wars have been more localized but just as brutal. Some historians estimate that well over a hundred million people lost their lives in wars during the 20th century.

The black horse, whose rider has scales in his hand to depict famine. (Revelation 6:5, 6) During the first world war, an Allied blockade caused some 750,000 deaths in Germany as a result of hunger. Over two million Russians starved to death in 1921, and similar tragedies soon unfolded elsewhere. In all, an estimated 70 million people died of famine during the 20th century. Every year, poor nutrition still contributes to the death of over three million children under the age of five.

The pale horse, whose rider brings death by deadly plague. (Revelation 6:8) The first great 20th-century plague was the Spanish flu. Figures vary widely, but one estimate says that the flu killed some 50 million people. "This pandemic was one of the worst disasters in history," notes the book Man and Microbes. "Even bubonic plague did not kill so many people so fast." Smallpox, malaria, and tuberculosis are other Infectious Diseases that caused hundreds of millions of deaths during the 20th century. A myth invented approximately 2000 years ago by St John the Evangelist, the author of "The Apocalypse or the Book of Revelation". They are the embodiment of all the things people feared then: War, Famine, Death or Plague and Conquest. They will bring forth the end of mankind before Judgment Day.

The "Four Horsemen of the Apocalypse" is a term used to describe a concept from the New Testament of the Christian Bible, in chapter six of the Book of Revelation. Although scholars disagree as to what exactly each horseman represents, the four horsemen are often referred to as Conquest, War, Famine, and Death.

According to the Bible, the Four Horsemen of the Apocalypse are the first four seals to be broken and set fourth the chain of events that will ultimately lead to the end of the world- the apocalypse.

The first is the White Horsemen which symbolizes Conquest. There are many theories as to whether it is for good or evil. Many believe that it represents a destructive conquest or the antichrist while others say it depicts Christ himself therefore being a righteous conquest.

The rider of the red horse is the second to come and symbolizes War. The color, as well as the sword that the figure carries, may suggest the blood that must be shed.

The black horse, Pestilence, or Famine, is the third horsemen to be set loose.

The pale horse is the last to come. It is Death.

Answer:

The four horsemen of the Apocalypse are the first four of seven symbolic seals on the scroll in Revelation 6, which Jesus strips away to reveal the prophecies they represent.

The interpretation of them is found in the "Olivet Prophecy" found in Matthew 24. Jesus informs us of the end time signs to watch for in our watch for His return. Like the parable that is Revelation, plainly-written Matthew 24 is also written in chronological order.

But, unlike Revelation... Matthew 24 isn't a mysterious parable. It is Jesus' "private interpretation" of the Revelation parable. Jesus always explained His parables to His disciples IN PRIVATE.

"...Jesus sent the multitude away, and went into the house: and His disciples came unto Him, saying, Declare unto us the parable of the tares of the field." (Matt.13:36)

On the Mount of Olives: "...the disciples came unto Him PRIVATELY, saying, Tell us, when shall these things be..." (Matt.24:3).

Jesus told them plainly in private what Revelation's parable hides from the minds and hearts of the masses who read it. The two different accounts tell of the same "end time" events (there is only ONE end time). And only Jesus is worthy to interpret the parable:

"...Thou art worthy to take the book, and to open the seals thereof..." (Rev.5:9).

The first four seals of Revelation 6... the four horsemen of the Apocalypse... according to Matthew 24 are false religion (specifically false Christianity), wars, famines, pestilences, diseases, earthquakes... in other words... all the things that have always been with man since the beginning.

"Take heed that no man deceive you. For many shall come in My name, saying, I am Christ; and shall deceive many. And ye shall hear of wars and rumours of wars: see that ye be not troubled: for all these things must come to pass, but the end is not yet. For nation shall rise against nation, and kingdom against kingdom: and there shall be famines, and pestilences, and earthquakes, in divers places. All these are the beginning of sorrows." (Matt.24:4-8)

These are the chronological meanings of the four horsemen (seals) of Revelation 6. Everyday things that we have learned to "live with." Things that will grow and increase in frequency and intensity, until they erupt into the Great Tribulation (seal 5 of Revelation 6)... which Jesus clearly describes for us in private in Matthew 24, verses 9 through 29.

The four horsemen are "the beginning of sorrows (or woes, or tribulation). Sooner or later, these "woes" man lives with will take him to the wall, when: "...except those days should be shortened, there should no flesh be saved (alive): but for the elect's sake those days shall be shortened." (Matt.24:22)

The increasing suffering and misery of these global conditions (horsemen) will eventually produce the Great Tribulation, which will end all life on earth if Jesus doesn't shorten it and return as He says He will, to prevent it.
