The five living US Presidents are:
(Ronald Reagan died in 2004 and Gerald Ford died in 2006.)
WHO*
1. George Washington- first to lead America
2. Thomas Jefferson- almost single handed created out government
3. Abraham Lincoln- Stopped America from dividing

There are more who belong here but its almost always these 6
Fame is hard to measure and it diminishes rapidly with time. In the US every normal person knows the presidents who served during his lifetime so if you take a random US poll on what presidents people know the recent ones are picked.
If you take an international poll of educated people the results would probably be somewhat different but still skewed toward the recent.
Right now, Obama is the most famous US president and George W. Bush and Bill Clinton would still be remembered most places in the world.
Some whose fame endures are
George Washington
Abraham Lincoln
Dwight Eisenhower (not so much as a president but as the winner of WW II)
John Kennedy got a lot of fame for reasons other than his achievements.
Ronald Reagan is still pretty famous, I think
Thomas Jefferson is recognized by historians all over.
Theodore Roosevelt is on Mt. Rushmore.
Woodrow Wilson and U.S. Grant was once internationally famous.
James Madison is the father of the US Constitution which is famous.
Richard Nixon is famous for Watergate and China .

Presidents have to be at least thirty-five years old in the US.
The first five presidents established many of the protocols and precedents practiced today. Without them, many of these practices would have been quite different.
All of the first five presidents were born in Virginia, but John Adams. John Adams was born in Braintree, Massachusetts.
Mary McLeod Bethune.
They were all "founding fathers," which means they were active in the fight for independence and in drawing up the constitution that created the United States.
The current (2009) US president's name is Barack Obama.
Dwight D. "Ike" Eisenhower
