Who are the Pipil?

The Pipil are an indigenous Latin America people. They reside in El Salvador, mainly around the department of Sonsonate. The Pipil are descendants of the Aztecs. During the period that the Mayans were becoming extinct, the Pipil migrated to El Salvador and soon took over the land. Later on, the Spanish came to take over them. The first time the Spanish came, the Pipil were able to defend their land and defeated the Spanish. It was the second attack on the Pipil that the Spanish won and took over El Salvador.

The language in which the Pipil spoke is, in English, Pipil. But, only a few of their elders can still speak the language. The name they call their is Naawat. It's derived from the Aztec language of Nahuatl.
