As of March 5, 2013, the number of Premier Answerers on Answers.com is 413. To be eligible for the Premier Answerer designation, a contributor should provide preferably well-researched and accurate answers to at least 100 questions. Why aren't premier answerers allowed to have super powers?
First of all, premier answerers are contributors with outstanding answers. Super powers can only be given to Supervisors, and Supervisors are people who dedicate a lot of time to WikiAnswers, and are among the most trusted members.The "job descriptions" of a premier answerer and a supervisor are very different, so actions taken to obtain a premier answerer badge may not align with those of a supervisor. Although premier answerers are very trusted members of WikiAnswers, they still may not qualify for a supervisor position. Premier answerers are trusted, but usually in the form of answers, and not responsibilities that the person can handle.In addition, most current premier answerers declined the opportunity to become a Supervisor with full-fledged super powers. Thus, the highest status left to give those who turned down the option to become a Supervisor is being a premier answerer. This status is still pretty high up there in the contributor hierarchy, but doesn't have any super powers to come with it - that's what a Supervisor's abilities are.The premier answerer badge is not gained easily. Those that carry the badge are valued contributors on WikiAnswers and may be considered for a supervisor position in the future. The best method of obtaining a super badge is to make exceptional contributions: answers and organization.

No, you get the Premier Answerer by answering questions with all your brain power, intelligence and thinking skills. When a supervisor sees a normal contributor with great questions and answers, they will recommend that contributor to be a Premier Answerer in WikiAnswers. Most of the Premier Answerers in this site are experts of a particular subject. For example, if someone is great at science and environmental change, a supervisor will recommend that particular person to be a Premier Answerer.

Why do some people become a Premier Answerer while others become a supervisor?
A Premier Answerer is completely different to a supervisor; these users are selected due to the quality of their answers, and not their general contributions towards the site. However quite a few Premier Answerers are also offered a supervisor position, but turn it down. You cannot be both a Premier as well as a supervisor.(See the Related questions.)
