Best Answer

The Aztecs were a native group to the central Mexico and to the northwestern part of Guatemala. They were the largest controlling group in that area. They set their capital up at Tenochtitlan, which today makes up part of Mexico City (Mexico's current capital). They ruled by fear and force and their economy was a barter system (they traded for what they wanted).

They were eventually taken over and nearly eliminated by Hernando Cortez, a Spanish conquistador.
