The Coca-Cola Company elected to keep their recipe secret so others could not copy it. The formula is not pateneted because 1) the patent would long ago have expired, and 2) a patent must state what is being patented and the formula would have to be given and could have been copied immediately.
Over the last 100 years Coca-Cola has enjoyed being the only company on the market able to reproduce the flavor precisely, and they have also enjoyed the economic benefit of doing so. As long as Coca-Cola has taken reasonable steps to keep their formula a secret, they would be able to prosecute anyone that would try to "steal" the secret from them under "Trade Secret" laws.

∙ 13y agoCoke's original formula is kept in the main vault of the SunTrust Bank branch in Atlanta. SunTrust arose from mergers that included Trust Company, which originally held the formula in its vault. (The Trust Company was the underwriter for Coca-Cola when it went public in 1919.) ∙ 13y agoCoca-Cola's company policy is that two executives know the recipe for Coca-Cola and have access to it. A myth exists that each knows half the formula, but both know it in its entirety. Some others also know the formula by virtue of contact with it over the many years since the formula was set. The company has a protocol for access to the information, as you would expect. The formula is a trade secret, and it is not patented. ∙ 11y agoThe Coca Cola Recipe is kept in a vault in a museum and the vault is on display. It beats me why they would show the world the formula for making Coca Cola like how crazy are you to do that. It could be stolen very easily.
