The oldest building in Cape Town is the castle which was built by the Dutch East India Company settlers between 1666 and 1679. This impressive stone fortress is now a museum open to the public and should be included on the itinerary of any visitor to Cape Town. Originally the castle was built on the beachfront but is now situated in the centre of the city as a result of land reclamation.
