Gaston Rebuffat was the first to climb all six Classic North Faces of the Alps in the 1930's. He wrote an account of these climbs in 1954, Etoiles et Tempêtes (Starlight and Storm).
The Trilogy of the Alps' faces (Eiger, Matterhorn, and Grandes Jorasses) were climbed in one year (Summer 1961-1962) by Leo Schlommer. The first Winter climb of same was accomplished by Ivano Ghirardini in 1977-1978.
