Giuseppe Verdi, of Italy.

Aida, by Giuseppe Verdi, was written in 1871, with first performance on 24th Dec 1871 at the Cairo Opera House. Although the general feeling is that this was commissioned for the opening of the Suez Canal, this is not correct. It was commissioned by the Khedive of Egypt for the Italian Theatre in Cairo.
