Somewhat protective. When she finds out that there was a fight in the market, she asks Benvolio where Romeo is, saying "right glad I am he was not in this fray." Her only other line is restraining Montague from fighting with Capulet. And the only other thing we know about her is that she apparently dies from grief at Romeo's exile. This also suggests protectiveness.

But let's face it, this is really sketchy information. We really don't know anything about Lady M.
