It would be more correct to say that this first painting was the work of Leonardo's master, Andrea del Verrocchio: Baptism of Christ.

It is believed that two (rather small) parts of this was painted by Leonardo.

When did Leonardo da Vinci first go to France?

because he was bored of Italy and was hunted by the mafia for stealing a loaf of bread. It wasn't boredom; he feared for his life. Leonardo generated an incredible amount of jealousy among his contemporaries, and fear, because of his multi-tiered genius, and because there was no one like him. He grew weary of defending himself, and fled his home in Florence and effectively was homeless for about a year, before Francis I invited him to France. He was anonymous in his travels, using many pseudonyms to avoid people's wrath. Not only was he gifted in the arts and sciences, but was magnificently handsome and possessed a stunning singing voice. This left everyone nearly apopleptic with jealousy. He was also homosexual, and that has never been an acceptable lifestyle to Italians, generally speaking.

Is the painting 'The Baptism of Christ' still in existence?

The painting I believe you are asking about is by Leonardo's master Verrocchio, painted around 1475 while a young da Vinci was a pupil in the workshop. However, the blonde angel on the left and parts of the background are Leonardo's work. The painting is on display at the Uffizi, Florence, Italy.
