No one invented ribosomes. They were discovered, not invented. Albert Claude, Christian de Duve, and George Emil Palade were jointly awarded the Nobel Prize in Physiology or Medicine, in 1974, for the discovery of the ribosomes.

Richard Roberts coined the term "ribosome" in 1958, soon after their discovery. The word ribosome derives its name from "ribo", which stand for ribonucleic acid, an important molecule similar to DNA, and the Greek word "soma", which means, "body."
