Who discovered Mars?

Answer:
We will never know who first discovered Mars. The Egyptians from 1570 B.C. called Mars by the god name of "Horus of the Horizon" and depicted it as a man with a hawk's head. They also observed the planet "going backwards" referring to what we now know as retrograde motion. Aristotle (384BC- 322BC) was among the first known writers to set down observations of Mars. In 1609, Galileo was the first to view Mars through a telescope.
