Dinosaurs existed long before humans did. Dinosaurs first appeared during the Triassic Period, approximately 240 million years ago and held dominant positions in all ecosystems until the mass extinction at the end of the Cretaceous Period. This is a timespan encompassing the entire Mezoic era, or 180 million years, and almost all research suggests that birds are direct desendants of dinosaurs in which case another 65 millions years should be added. Humans, by contrast, came into being approximately 1 million years ago, long, long after the fall of the class Dinosauria and have held the dominant position on land for approximately 1/245th as long as the Dinosaurs did.
