King Arthur, a legendary medieval king of Britain, owned the sword Excalibur (also Caledfwlch). Arthur is the subject of several medieval histories, but may not have been an actual historical figure. His stories include the sorceror Merlin, the Knights of the Round Table, and the city of Camelot.

There are two different origin stories for the quasi-mythical King Arthur:

1) he pulled the sword out of a stone- hence "the Sword and the Stone"

2) the other that it was given to him by the Lady of The Lake, a sort of water Nymph

The entire Arthurian legend is replete with mysticism, magic, and supernatural forces.
