The 21st century is totally different today. During the Viet war in the 20th century, men were put where they were needed; period! Thus tankers with an 11E MOS, mortarmen with their 11C MOS or Armored Reconnaissance men with their 11D MOS could and did recieve 11B infantryman CIBs "IF" they were assigned to a grunt unit and was under fire (in contact) in Vietnam with that unit. Those men didn't even have to have their MOSs changed, they could still have (maintain) their tankers, mortar, artillery, etc. MOS...but as long as they were in the field AS A GRUNT (infantryman) with a GRUNT unit (actually assigned to it)...then they earned a CIB.

After the war men with a tanker, mortar, etc. MOS had to serve in those MOSs. But then again, there wasn't a war going on, so based "upon the needs of the service", the US Army could afford to award CIBs to ONLY infantrymen MOSs.

Was the army mos 11m eligible for the combat infantry mans badge?

Yes, and a lot of 11M soldiers got it in Operation Desert Storm. You must have an Infantry or Special Forces MOS, be assigned to an Infantry or Special Forces unit and engage in direct combat with the enemy to earn the CIB.

Did World War 2 Artillerymen qualify for the Combat Infantry Badge?

No.My dad was an artilleryman and a forward observer assigned to an infantry division. Even though he went out on patrols with the infantry, he was not qualified for the Combat Infantryman's Badge. Only soldiers who had a rating as an infantrymancould earn the CIB. Medics were eventually issued a medic badge, but the artilleryman never got a badge. As a side-note, artillery spotters would be flown on in light aircraft to observe the enemy positions. They were awarded the Air Medal for these flights.Custermen*side note*The army has finally decided to give artillerymen an award for combat service. The Combat Action Badge (CAB) is not strictly for artillerymen, but is meant for troops who are involved in combat but are not infantry. The creation of this badge is the result of IED's and the need to recognize troops who would not normally be involved in combat (truck drivers, mechanics, etc). This is the only badge artillerymen are currently awarded and its a shame that we do not have combat artillery badge.

What does the marines do to help people?

what CAN'T we do?! we've got pilots, infantry, people on ships, etc. you name it we've probably got it. We're the first ones into a combat zone and we're always the last out. The Marines are the only branch of service that has the ability to dominate in the air, on land, and on the sea. You can fight or support combat roles in logistics. Look up Marine Corps MOS and you'll find a list of jobs
