Blacks, in 1870. Women got the right to vote in 1920. I guess if you were a black WOMAN, that was like a double whammy! For both women and blacks, the right to vote was not always granted to each black person or woman in every place even after they had the legal right to do so.

No, slaves had the right to vote in 1870 and women got the right to vote in 1920. (this is in the United States of America)

ADDED INFORMATION

Slaves may have gotten the right in 1870, but due to Jim Crow laws they were stopped from voting for another 100 years. In 1965 the Voting Rights Act was passed to insure African Americans were able to vote.

They had the right, but were not able to use it. The Jim Crow laws insured that there were voting requirements to pass before being able to vote. One of the means tests was a reading test and since it was against the law to teach slaves to read it was a sure thing they couldn't pass a test. There were also poll taxes charged and they were high enough that on the low pay people earned it was enough to keep them from voting. If they did come up with the money the price was raised. So, yes they had the right in 1920 when the 19th amendment was passed, but never got to vote until 1965 with the passage of the Voting Rights Act. Today, some states are trying to over throw the act and return to some of the old Jim Crow laws by calling them different things to " protect" voting rights.
