There are thousands of individuals who have earned an online degree and thousands more to come. More and more individuals today are taking online degrees. It gives individuals who have work/life responsibilities that would interfere or prohibit them from taking on campus coursework the opportunity to further their education. You can schedule your own study time, work at your own pace, work within a online classroom when ever you want etc. The online coursework and degree is just as valid as on campus coursework. In fact, the only way someone would know you took the work online is if you volunteered that information. The degree and transcript does not indicate the work was taken online, so there really is no difference. In addition, because there is no on campus work, you can choose colleges and universities from anywhere in the country. I must say though, you must be an individual who is a self starter, and disciplined in study habits. If you are a procrastinator, this type of educational approach is not for you. Lastly, for colleges and universities within the United States and its territories, you must make sure the college or university you choose has the appropriate regional accreditation. This is critical! With a regional accreditation you can be assured the coursework and degree you complete will be recognized by all other colleges and universities as well as employers. I have listed the six accreditation agencies below. Make sure the school has one of these.

Regional Accreditation Agencies

· Middle States Association of Colleges and Schools - Educational institutions in New York, New Jersey, Pennsylvania, Delaware, Maryland, the District of Columbia, Puerto Rico, and the US Virgin Islands, as well as schools for American children in Europe, North Africa, and the Middle East.

· New England Association of Schools and Colleges - Educational institutions in the six New England states (Connecticut, Maine, Massachusetts, New Hampshire, Rhode Island, and Vermont).

· North Central Association of Colleges and Schools - Educational institutions in Arkansas, Arizona, Colorado, Iowa, Illinois, Indiana, Kansas, Michigan, Minnesota, Missouri, North Dakota, Nebraska, Ohio, Oklahoma, New Mexico, South Dakota, Wisconsin, West Virginia, and Wyoming.

· Northwest Commission on Colleges and Universities - Postsecondary institutions (colleges and universities) in Alaska, Idaho, Montana, Nevada, Oregon, Utah, and Washington.

· Western Association of Schools and Colleges - Educational institutions in California, Hawaii, Guam, American Samoa, Micronesia, Palau, and Northern Marianas Islands.

· Southern Association of Colleges and Schools - Educational institutions in Virginia, Florida, Georgia, Kentucky, Louisiana, Mississippi, North Carolina, South Carolina, Alabama, Tennessee and Texas.
