Ken Kutaragi, a hardware executive at Sony, adapted a Sony-Nintendo CD-ROM project into the PlayStation in 1994 after Sony broke with Nintendo over the Super NES in 1991. Kutaragi was later Chairman and CEO of Sony Computer Entertainment, the computer games division of Sony.
