∙ 13y agoSweet potatoes were not invented. They are a natural product. They were cultivated in tropical South America at least 5,000 years ago. They were spread to the Cook Islands and Polynesia in about 1000 AD and to New Zealand soon after. Europeans 'discovered' the sweet potato in the 1500s.
