I was always told that my grandfather, Charles Franklin Dilks, invented the air horn that was used by the navy. When I was young around 1955 I used to go to the library and look at a picture of him and several others shaking hands. I believe he worked for General Electric or Sylvania at the time and was told they got the credit. He also invented a loud speaker and was known as "Iron Jaws Dilks" for being the strongest man in NJ in 1920 or 1921.
