George Smith invented the lollipop. One day, he was at his confectionary business and his co-worker was eating a hard candy and his hands got all sticky and icky. His friend Bob Marsquee said, "Ugh, I HATE these hard candies. They're a hassle and i just can not take the mess anymore!" And he threw the candy away and got back to work. George thought to himself, what if i could invent a product of such kind that someone can enjoy with out the mess of a normal hard candy... Hmm... But what could i do? What could i do to fix this flaw?
The thought and thought...
THAT'S IT!
I CAN ADD A STICK OR HANDLE TO THE HARD CANDY SO YOU DON'T HAVE TO DEAL WITH THE MESS! Yessss! That's it!!!
He experimented with this for a while and came out with the "lollipop". He called it the Lollipop because of his favorite racing horse Lolly Pop...

There are 300 types of licorice. The American Licorice company began in 1914 with selling licorice cigarettes and cigars as a cheap alterative for tobacco. In the 1920's it was sold to a San Franciso company who started to make it in candy the 1930's. These were called Snaps.
There seems to be many ideas around who first invented lollies or lollypops.
