According to the Great Idea Finder, the remote control was invented in the 1950s at Zenith Corporation. The first iteration, dubbed "Lazy Bones," used a cable that ran from the television set to the controller. In 1955, Eugene Polley, another Zenith employee, came up with the Flashmatic, the industry's first wireless remote. While it worked reasonably well, it did have limitations that kept it from being practical enough for everyday use.

The next year, Dr. Robert Adler unveiled the Space Command remote control. Instead of the photo cells used in the Flashmatic, the Space Command used ultrasound. This added 30% to the price of the TV, but it was considered a success and later adopted by other manufacturers."

I believe that it was Zenith brand with their `Space Commander' in the late 50's or very early 60's. It consisted of a tuning fork which was activated by a mechanical system. It was a sound based system (sonic) in which the TV had a microphone built in, and the system was tuned to that specific pitch. Sometimes, jangling coins in your pocket would cause it to activate.

The concept of the remote control for television was created in 1950, by Zenith Radio Corporation. At first they created a remote called "Lazy Bones", which was connected to by a wire, but was very primitive. Then they created a wireless remote control called "Flashmatic", but had to be pointed exactly towards the receiver.

Robert Adler created a "Zenith Space Command" in 1956, which sent signals to the receiver using ultrasound, and clicked, which gave it the nickname "clicker". The only problem was that some people could actually hear the sounds being emitted, and sometimes channels could be changed by a toy xylophone, or some naturally occurring sounds.

Where were tv remote controls invented?

The tv remote was invented back in 1950.It was something called "lazy bones" which was a wired remote, it had just a channel button and power button. The flashmatic was the first wireless remote which was a flashlight tv remote control, had 1 button for the light pointing at a controller switch on the tv,and 1 to get the remote turned on.Using a tv remote before 1980 was a set-top remote capable with any control the tv would detect even though it wasn't a universal remote.TV remotes during the '80s were either wired to the tv or ir since those both were the standards.Wireless stopped becoming a standard since it represented mid 50s- late '50s household usage, and ir became better for tv remotes than a wireless tv remote control

The first TV remote control, called "Lazy Bones," was developed in 1950 by Zenith Electronics Corporation (then known as Zenith Radio Corporation). Lazy Bones used a cable that ran from the TV set to the viewer. In 1956, Zenith's Dr. Robert Adler suggested using "ultrasonic's," that is, high-frequency sound, beyond the range of human hearing. He was assigned to lead a team of engineers to work on the first use of ultrasonic's technology in the home as a new approach for a remote control.
