The name of the person is unknown. The Chinese invented gunpowder before 800AD. By the 13th Century AD, the formula had arrived in Europe. Over the next century crude cannons and eventually hand held firearms were developed and used in warfare. The use of cannons and hand held firearms spread through out Europe, the Middle East and into Asia over the next several centuries and by the 15th Century, "guns" were pretty much standard items in most armies and navies.
