Modeling without Programming is a systematic approach developed by Lin Chen to implement advanced algorithms and models in financial engineering, computational finance and actuarial science in Excel spreadsheets using Excel's built-in functions only, without VBA coding.
Such advanced models and algorithms include, but are not limited to, HJM framework,BGM model, least-square MC and random tree method for American option pricing, credit risk models by extreme value theory and copula approach, and all the models in Paul Glasserman's " Monte Carlo Methods in Financial Engineering". Implementation of these models and algorithms are normally required substantial programming experience with C, C++ JAVA or Matlab.
Thus, 'Modeling with Programming' approach makes it possible for those who can't code to learn computational finance, financial engineering and modeling in insurance.
Prof. Lin Chen is currently traveling across the world to teach his Modeling without Programming techniques in less developed countries, helping enhance teaching and research in finance for these countries. Dr. Lin Chen calls what he has been doing a "Financial Education for All" (FEFA) mission, which echoes the UNESCO's Education for All(EFA).
Dr. Chen has taught his " Modeling without Programming" technique in universities and financial institutions in several countries and will teach in the following countries in the years to come China, Thailand, Mauritius, Kazakhstan, Bahrain, Poland, Czech, Ukraine, Russia, Syria, Iran, and South Korea.
