Smeagol is nicer. In the movies Gollum love and hates the ring and shows the hate between us if there was no God to save us. On the other hand Smeagol tries to honor and serve his master frodo and tries to fight of Gollum even though they are the same person. Gollum and Smeagul show the fights we have with ourselves on good and evil or right and wrong.

Smeagol turns into Gollum when he kills his friend Deagol and takes the One Ring from him. Gollum was the name other hobbits would give him because he made that "gollum" sound in his throat. So the one we know as Gollum is born.

Why does Gollum become Smeagol throughout the Two Towers?

Gollum is already Smeagol to begin with. That's his real name before he took the ring from Deagol. But he changes into himself again because Smeagol thinks that Gollum is no longer needed anymore. So Smeagol becomes more nice during The Two Towers but changes back to his old self.

How did Frodo realize that Gollum was Smeagol and what does Smeagol or Gollum respond to that?

Frodo already knew that Gollum was Smeagol because Gandalf told him earlier in the Fellowship of the Ring. When Gollum hears his old name, he realizes who he really is and that his master Frodo is the one who takes care of him now and no longer needs "Gollum".

Where is gollum and where does he live?

It's kind of hard to explain. There's one hobbit named Smeagol, and his friend (Deagol) finds the one ring. Smeagol strangles him for it, and then gets corrupted by it (the ring), and turns into Gollum. However, sometimes he's able to control Gollum and be Smeagol, but usually he's Gollum, but can have conversations with Smeagol. So basically, he's a dude with split-personality disorder. Gollum/Smeagol doesn't really have a home, but when he finds the ring, he goes to a cave in the Misty Mountains, but leaves when the ring is stolen from him by Bilbo. This is not completely right look under discuss this question for the correct answer.
