Haley's comet is a comet that passes around every 76 years, it was last seen in 1986 and will next be seen in 2061. It is the only short-period comet that is visible to the naked eye. It's orbit is highly elliptical and focuses on the sun.
Correctly named Halley's comet, this comet was named after Edmond Halley in 1705 and is visible to the naked eye about twice in a person's lifetime.

Halley's Comet was named after Edmond Halley, after he predicted the return of a comet known since 240 BC. He published Synopsis Astronomia Cometicae, which stated his belief that the comet sightings of 1456, 1531, 1607, and 1682 were related to the same comet, which he predicted would return in 1758

His predictions were spot on, although he did not live long enough to witness the return of the comet.

Firstly it is "what" is comet halley. and secondly it is "halley" Halley's Comet or Comet Halley is the most famous of the periodic comets and can currently be seen every 75-76 years. Many comets with longorbital periods may appear brighter and more spectacular, but Halley is the only short-period comet that is clearly visible to the naked eye, and thus, the only naked-eye comet certain to return within a human lifetime. During its returns to the inner solar system, it has been observed by astronomers since at least 240 BC.but it was not recognized as a periodic comet until the eighteenth century when its orbit was computed by English astronomer Edmond halley, after whom the comet is now named. Halley's Comet last appeared in the inner Solar System in 1986.

Halley's comet was named after Edmund Halley, who calculated its orbit. He determined that the comets seen in 1531 and 1607 were the same object that followed a 76-year orbit. Unfortunately, Halley died in 1742, never living to see his prediction come true when the comet returned on Christmas Eve 1758.
