Lyman Frank Baum [May 15, 1856-May 5, 1919] was the author of 14 books in the Oz series of adventures. The best known in the series always has been the first, The Wizard of Oz. Its story of Dorothy, Toto the pet dog, the Tin Woodman, the Scarecrow, and the Cowardly Lion has appealed to a wide range of audiences and readers through the original book, and by way of the popular 1939 film version.
