Raul Castro is Fidel Castro's younger brother, he has been the acting president of Cuba since July 2006, when Fidel transferred power to him because of health issues.
Raul has been by Fidel's side since the beginning of the revolution, and was instrumental in forming an alliance with the Soviet Union.
UPDATE: Raul Castro became Cuba's president in February 2008, after Fidel stepped down as president.
