There is no dearth of talent in India and one actress cannot be called the best. One cannot be better than all the others as every actress has own fort.

Sridevi, Rekha, Hema Malini, Madhubala, Nargis, Waheeda Rehman, Vyajyanti Mala, Nutan, Meena Kumari, Sharmila Tagore, Smita Patil, Nandita Das, Shabana Aazmi, Madhuri, Kajol, Rani Mukherjee, Preity Zinta, Kareena Kapoor, Karishma Kapoor are all very competent actresses.

If talking in terms of both talent and acheivment, the name that comes first to mind is SRIDEVI. Indian film industry constitutes of Hindi, Telugu, Tamil, Malyalam, Bangla to name a few. All these film industries are quite seasoned and produce both quality and commercial cinema. Sridevi is the only actress to have ruled the 3 biggest film industries of India Hindi, Tamil and Telugu and Malyalam as well. After Hema Malini, she is the only actress in the bollywood to have maintained No.1 position for a decade. The only actress to have been re numerated more than her male co stars and is quoted as the first female superstar of India. Her other popular titles being Lady Amitabh Bachchan, The Last Empress and Hero of her films. In no. of hit movies also Sridevi is second only to Hema Malini. As for screen space, Sridevi had a lion's share in all her movies. She has the maximum no. of celebrity fans. She is the role model of all her successors like Juhi Chawla, Kajol, Kareena, Karishma, Preity, Urmila, Ayesha Takia, Lara Dutta or Shilpa Shetty or Katrina Kaif to name a few. She is one of the very few Indian commercial cinema actresses to have got international recognition. Steven Speilberg was keen on casting her in Jurassic park. She received Internatinal Film Academy's Best Actress Award for Lamhe. Her roles became landmarks of Indian cinema. When she played a young woman who regressed to childhood in the much talked over "Sadma", it became the most definitive child woman role of bollywood. When she played a snakewoman in Nagina, it again became the best snake movie ever made in India. She was the only actress whose dialogues like Wohi To( Judaai), Understand, you better understand ( Laadla), Balllamaa ( Chaalbaaz) were on every Indian's mouth and that had never happened in past and has not happened again after Sridevi. People only rememberd heroes but she turned the tables.

Only her being media shy, she did not get her due recognition but she remains the unique, the very special, the first female superstar of India-SRIDEVI.
