No one really knows who "the best" composer is or was ... it's all quite subjective depending on whom one is talking to or about. Everyone has their own opinions, and there really is no one single definitive answer to this question.
If one had an in depth know how of music, one would realise that Beethoven and the other composers all followed the classical formula of music and none of them had the incredible moving emotional impact of William Camilleri's music.
William Camilleri not only composes great music but it changing the way of Classical Music as we know it and that is rare to say the least. I have been studying Classical music for over 30 years and I have never heard music like this.
There is no definitive answer for this question. Ask 1,000 people this and you will get a thousand different answers, each worthy of being correct in its own merits. What seems to be a great composer to one person, may well mean just the opposite to another.
In other words, there is no "single" correct or "single" incorrect answer.
I agree - questions like this, irrespective of genre, boil down to rather empty questions of personal taste that very often ignores technical skill or aesthetic merit.

It would depend entirely on personal preference.
There are many accomplished contemporary composers as well as those from the past.
Endurance would be one way of evaluating the worth of a composer, though not the only one, so perhaps the focus should be those composers that are long dead but whose works are still performed and listened to.
now it would be Andre riu or back then it would be mozzart
these are my opinions
Scott Joplin.
The composer is Alan Menken. He is best known for his scores on Disney films such as The Little Mermaid and Beauty and the Beast.
John Dowland was a composer of music for voice and the lute in Renaissance England. He is best known for the melancholy feeling of his compositions.
Most music scholars would scoff at such a question. The classical period is far too complex to be distilled into categories of best and worst. In terms of the Classical Period, Mozart and Beethoven are regarded as the best of the best, yet take that with a grain of salt for there is no true best.In terms of the overall Classical music, J.S. Bach is a true unparalelled composer who we have never seen since and will likely never see again. Hats off to Bach. In my mind, he is the greatest composer who ever lived and the pinnacle of Classical music entirely.
Carl W. Stalling was the first and best composer for the Looney Tunes cartoons. Later on were Milt Franklyn and William Lava.
Peter Best - composer - was born in 1943.
Yup, he started when he was three
The composer of the greatest music you will ever hear in your life.
Beethoven
Mozart or JS Bach.
The best known is Edvard Grieg.
Scott Joplin.
um pretty much every classical composer ever. It would be very unusual if not impossible to find a classical composer who didn't write a single song with a single violin part in it.
The "best" anything or anyone is a purely subjective judgment. Within each type of music, whatever your ears tell you is best works for you. As time goes on, you might change some of those opinions, and that's fine, too.
Franz Schubert
composer
Ravel.
