Louis Pasteur is commonly regarded as the father of microbiology.
There are very many people who can be considered to be the father of microbiology. For many centuries the idea of microorganisms existed. But before the microscope was developed they were not observed. In 1676 van Leeuwenhoek observed bacteria using a simple microscope. Robert Hooke made the first observation and recorded it. Louis Pasteur and Robert Koch are often considered to be the fathers of microbiology. Pasteur disproved the theory of spontaneous generation. He produced several vaccines including one for anthrax and one for rabies. Koch is associated with the germ theory of disease.

He demonstrated that life did not arise spontaneously from nonliving matter

probiotics, single cell protein
She was the first to introduce using agar as a solidifying agent in isolating bacteria, where she assisted the father of practical microbiology Robert koch. Agar(is taken from red algae and it wasn't attacked by most of the bacteria)
A department about microbiology
"Microbiology helps us with knowing about organisms other than living ones, and microscopic ones, like bacteria, so we don't get sick all of the time. Microbiology also helps us in warding off infectious diseases, like the flu, because the flu has microscopic bacteria and viruses." Microbiology is the study of life too small to be seen by the naked (unaided) eye. It typically studies bacteria, viruses, algae and yeast. Medical microbiology examines the disease causing microbes. Marine microbiology explores microbes in the oceans and bays. Food microbiology deals with microbes used to create food (i.e. yogurt, pickles, cheeses, beer & wine) and also those that cause food borne illness.
