To answer this question fully depends on what metric one uses or how one defines "educated." Going purely by academic degrees, there have been several past presidents who had earned a terminal degree of Juris Doctor (a degree held by most lawyers of the present day), but only one had attained a degree where the title of "Doctor" could be conferred. Woodrow Wilson earned a PhD in political science from Johns Hopkins after completing an undergraduate education from Princeton University. He is also considered by many to be the most academic president of all times having served as the president of Princeton University prior to his tenure in the White House.

Woodrow Wilson was the only president who earned a PhD. He was the one with the most formal education. His scholarly papers and books were so impressive that he was offered the presidency at U of Illinois and later Princeton which he accepted.

William Howard Taft and Bill Clinton were noted as legal scholars and James Garfield was the president of Hiram College.

Some of the most educated presidents in the United States include Woodrow Wilson (who graduated with a PhD from John Hopkins University), Bill Clinton (who graduated from Yale Law School), and George W. Bush (who graduated from Harvard Business School). Many US presidents graduated college and many also went to law school although a few did not graduate successfully.

I would say either the "Rail Splitter" (Abe Lincoln) for his brilliant speeches or George Washington for keeping America's new system of government at the time from being a fiasco
