Charles M. Schulz was inspired to create Snoopy by his own childhood dog, Spike, who would lie on top of his doghouse. He wanted to illustrate the whimsical nature of dogs and their unique personalities. Schulz also drew inspiration from his own experiences growing up with dogs and observing their antics.

Charles Monroe Schulz, or Charles M Schulz, was the creator of 'Peanuts'. He was a shy and introverted teenager, and when he created his comic strip 'Peanuts' he based the character of Charlie Brown on himself. Charlie Brown first appeared in the comic strip "Li'l Folks", published in 1947 by the St Paul Pioneer Press. In 1950, Schulz approached the United Features Syndicate with his best strips from "Li'l Folks", and "Peanuts" made its debut on 2 October 1950.
