Known as "hardware" guns, the practice was used for the Sears JC Higgins brand, Montgomery Ward's Westernfield brand, Western Auto's Revelation brand, etc. Very common practice at one time. Guns were made by Savage, Marlin, Mossberg, Winchester, High Standard, Remington, etc.
