The model J C Higgins model 50 was built by High Standard using the FN Mauser action made in Belgium. It was available in 2 calibers, the .30-06 and .270. The J C Higgins model 51 was the same rifle except it had a stock that had a cheek piece and checkering. All of the model 50 & 51 rifles that I have and have had, shot very well.

Made in the 1950s. There is a safety recall on the model 583.13 through 583.22. These are unsafe to fire. Sears will provide a $50 gift card in return for sending in the bolt.
