The 583 code used by sears on these guns means House brand exclusive Sears product sold only by Sears. any gun so marked was made by Sears and Roebuck & co.

The Model 20 was designed and developed at Sears expense by High Standard and Sears was the exclusive customer.

The 583 in the Sears reference number indicates that High Standard was the vendor and the following digits indicate which model and which version of the model the particular gun is.

Sears did own stock in High Standad but did not own High Standard. Sears owned up to 30% of the common stock.

These guns were also sold by Simpsons Sears in Canada
