Answer
The original eight reindeer were named by Clement C. Moore in the poem "A Visit from St. Nicholas." The ninth reindeer, Rudolph, was named by copywriter Robert L. May as part of a Montgomery Ward Christmas ad campaign.
Any other reindeer named in holiday literature or specials (Fireball, Olive, etc.) were named by the authors of their respective works (Rankin/Bass, etc.).
