Who or what is God?

Jesus is God.

To know who God is must know him as God. That is our real problem with knowing God - it is not an intellectual problem that we have, but a moral/spiritual/relational problem. Who is God? is not a hard question to answer. He is the creator of the world, and our personal creator, to whom we owe all things, the Alpha and Omega. He has revealed himself to us clearly in the man Jesus Christ. That puts the answer simply, and of course there is a great deal more to think about and question even in this. But sometimes the intellectual objections to this answer are smokescreens in front of the real objection we have: we don't want God to be God over me.

Anyone who claims to know the answer to that one is either speaking from his/her own faith or is seeking a way to separate you from your money. The simple reality is, nobody has met God and returned to tell us about it, regardless of any stories that the religious extremists may want to tell you. The creation of the Universe leaves so many questions that we, as a supposed intelligent species, feel a need to find answers. Sometimes we are so desperate for answers that we are willing to accept a made-up answer. Such is the case with the question that you ask. The creator of the Universe may be the God depicted by the religions of the world, but more likely, those Gods are just the creation of Man, to provide simple and convenient answers to the troubling question. If you consider God as the creator, the entity, force, power, intelligence or whatever it/he/she is, then you must recognize that the Universe was started and beyond that we don't really know much.

God is an ever changing quality in time that holds true to the principles of the Universe as we know them. Some of the principles that we should continue to support to be more like the God that we created are to be non-judgmental, accepting of others, love one another, and look for the good in all people. Then we can claim to truly be creatures of God.

There is a God, and He is Jehovah, the God of the true (and practicing) Christians and Jews. There is but one God, and thanks be to Him, He is all anyone will could ever need! I like it this way, as all the mail (prayers) go to one mail box and always get answered because God never sleeps nor slumbers. Lastly, the Bible is not a book of fairy tales, and just for kids, but a Divinely inspired Book that is correct in everything that It says (geography, science, history, anthropology (the study of man) and in the matters of sin). This Book is the Authoritative Source of all that pertains to God and His ways of dealing with man and everything else.
Note that Muslisms also worship Jehovah. The actual spelling, by the way, is YHWH (from the Hebrew) which is commonly rendered as "Yahweh". "Jehovah" comes from a mis-translation of the texts.

God is a spirit, and His existence is known in the beauty of creation, that includes the masterful design of our bodies, the bodies of animals, and the inner working of plants, and of the earth itself. The fact that there are so many religions points to the fact that there is a God, though many make gods out of nature, which is rather foolish.

According to the yogis who have had actual experience of God in meditation, it is virtually a spiritual cosmic principle that is all-pervasive and exists within all things as well as contains all things.They say that God in its highest aspect is all in all, and all in all That.No one can understand or realize God in its complete fullness or highest aspects because it is the creator of All manifestation and therefore must logically be greater that that which it created.Part of its creation is MIND for example, therefore the human mind cannot fully comprehend something which is far, far more superior and virtually contains mind itself.According to the Eastern wisdon though, we can percieve and know God in one of its many manifestations through Meditation and Yoga......that aspect of mind known as Superconsciousness reveals to us the subtler realms of which only the clairvoyant or devotee can penetrate giving us a glimpse of the higher realms.In true deep Meditation the inner realms of Samadhi reveal to the ardent devotee that portable heaven or state of God-realization which is the birthgright of every man, woman and child on Earth.

Assuming you mean the God of Abraham, this being is either an omnipotent, omniscient, and super-intelligent creator of all things, or a fictional character, one of about 2500 false gods.

False gods are considered false only to those who believed their god is the real god. To those who believed in the other so called "false god/s", then the true god is their god. How do we know which is the real true God or if is there really a god/s?

God is everything that exists and yet more than this. It is that which was before the beginning and that which is after the end. In its higher aspect as Father it is the great emptiness of space wherein there are no stars, planets, or thoughts to perturb his blissful solitary existence. In its aspect as Mother it has manifested its infinite ingenuity in creation and has to get along with itself.

All religions started in the mind of man/woman....the originator eventually had his/her ideas of god put into writing(hence the many "Holy" books and scrolls.) that are in existence today !.These writings are modified from time to time over the centuries by persons who find in them a useful means of controlling the mainly gullible and poorly educated peoples of the world. All words are products of the human mind....there is no magical God involved...I can not prove it ...But there is no proof that stands up to intelligent reason to prove that God exists.

We use the term "God" to describe things, beliefs, paradigms that are beyond our intellectual understanding, such as love, emotions, and mankind's unyielding search for meaning. No one can truly describe God fully with words, and yet many have tried to do so; some out of sincerity and love (Jesus), ours for control, and their own lust for power (religion, dominations... the Catholic Church...). The latter is what is mainstay in the world today. Jesus himself proclaimed "narrow is the gate that leads to life and only a few find it." To truly see or know God, you "must deny yourself" as Christ did and gave himself up so that the world may know God the Father by believing in the Son.

Well God created you and there is no other God besides him. He sent his only son to die on the cross for everyone and and took away your sins so you don't have to go to hell if you repent.

Jews, Christians and Muslims believe that God is the one true god of the universe.

God is the mighty overlord of the universe that decides who goes to heaven and who to hell.

GOD is mistakingly confused for YHVH. In Hebrew it is the four letters: Yod, He, Vav, He. This is the third person singular of the verb "to be", meaning: HE IS or IT IS or SHE IS, but IT would signify better. This also means that IS means eternal existence and the ultimate real. There is no thing outside of YHVH, only inside. However, the divine cannot truly be understood in a word of human thought and language or even sacred texts. No, not even this passage either! No beginning or no ending. The eternal is now. Time or space do not exist but are only constructs of the mind. The date is not 2008, but IT IS. God does not exist and there is no thing floating in outer space ready to judge me. The YHVH is more understanding than judging and your very essence is very near to this power or strength that is YHVH (Also called LORD for English Christians). IT IS cannot be negated because IT IS.

All things were made by Him; and without Him was not any thing made that was made. So how do we define god? We define Him as He defines himself. He is the Word. It goes on to say in the Gospel of John, chapter one, that He came as the true Light, which lights every man that comes into the world. It says that He came unto His own, the Jewish nation, and his own received him not. They rejected Him. But as many as received Him, to them gave He the power to become the sons of God, even to them that believe on his name. What? Sons? We can again be the image of the Father God, his children. John 1:13 says "born of God". But verse 14 shows us the preview of what we will become: And the Word was made flesh, and dwelt among us, (and we beheld his glory, the glory as of the only begotten of the Father,) full of grace and truth. So God came to earth as the man Jesus Christ. John the baptist, not the author of the gospel of John, but another man named John, was given a message and a ministry to prepare people on this earth, to make them ready for the Word's arrival. When Jesus came to John the Baptist at the Jordan River to be baptized in water by him, (an act necessary to fulfill all righteousness), in verse 29, John announced, "Behold the Lamb of God, which takes away the sin of the world."There is the provision of love to restore intimacy. Jesus (Yeshua) came to take away the sin of the world, the sin of mankind. He promised that He would come. In Isaiah, another book of the Bible, it says in Ch.48:16, "Come ye near unto; me , hear ye this; I have not spoken in secret from the beginning; from the time that it was, there am I: and now the Lord GOD, and his spirit, hath sent me." Now a united one is spoken of as three. "Thus saith the LORD, thy Redeemer (the one who restores you by buying you back), the Holy One of Israel: I am the LORD thy God which teaches thee to profit, which leads thee by the way that thou should go. He identifies Himself in the same chapter earlier: I am He; I am the first, I also am the last. He also identifies Himself in the first chapter,v.8 of the book of Revelation as: the alpha and omega, the beginning and the ending, saith the Lord, which is, and which was, and which is to come, the Almighty. And in v.11: I am Alpha and Omega, the first and the last.

So what is God? He is God, worthy of a capital letter because His names, all of them, tell us who and what He is, His character. God is a being who made all we see and feel, but just as people build a box to put apples in, people are not defined by apples. People are not the box. People are outside the box and cannot be defined by the box or the apples. So we see God's creation, but He is outside the box. He made the earth and all that was in it, including us. Then when man rebelled and rejected his authority and became a sinner that no longer was the beautiful image of God, He loved us so much that the Word, Jesus, became a man to restore us to being like Him. He died a terrible death to buy us back, to pay for our sin. Love made the way back to intimacy with God, so we can know and experience Him again.Still there are those, not wanting to face who they are, they that refuse to acknowledge and come to God as He defines Himself. If they say "he is not" then they will die without their sins washed away. They reject God for who He really is and break the Heart of the One who only wanted to love them. But others, and maybe that includes you, will gladly find out who and what God is and return to receive all the Love that God will pour out on them. And the way is only through accepting the sacrifice of Jesus Christ, God, as payment for your sins. Ask Him to receive you as His child, to take away your sins. Give Him your life and find yourself with the Love of God surrounding you. ==

By definition, God is the one supreme and absolute Being; the ultimate source of the universe; the all-powerful, all-knowing, all-good Creator, Ruler, and Preserver of all things. He is the Father of all, for He created all things.
