The president and the vice-president are sworn in by the the chief justice of the US and maybe another justice. Some minister usually gives a prayer. Military bands play and big guns are fired. Obama had professional singers, a large choir and a poet perform. Hundreds come for the balls and to march in the parade. Workers build platforms and hand banners. Many police officers control the crowds and direct traffic. Afterwards, clean-up crews have much to do.
