Voodoo is the name of the religion and its various practices, which are akin to superstitious sympathetic magic, for example the use of voodoo dolls (one wonders if this has been updated with model autos for used-car dealers- no to stick a pin in the left fender- cr-crash. oh a minor one, he"ll be in for body and fender repair. I seem to recall the term Yoruba, this may be a cult or religion of its own- but is related to Voodoo. The practice is sometimes called Voudun- which seems to be a French adaptation like Vaudeville- no connection!

Haitians practice Catholicism and protestantism. In fact, in Haiti one is free to practice any religion one feels appealing. Some Haitians practice voodoo, but not openly. I would like to demystify the thoughts that all Haitians practice voodoo. That is not true at all. Just because some people believe in superstition does not mean they practice voodoo.
Voodoo/Voudo/Voudun is a fascinating and beautiful faith and practice. It deserves great respect and reverence.
