Who put the alphabet in alphabetical order?

The Greeks of the 6th and 5th Centuries BCE. The order of the letters, and indeed their values as well, was of great religious significance, and changed over time to reflect changes in religious belief. The original ( perhaps!) order of letters began B, L, N. All the vowels are late modifications.
