Gregg was one of the founding members of Journey with Neal Schon, Aynsley Dunbar, George Tickner, and Ross Valory in 1973. Neal Schon was formerly a guitarist with Santana.

Black Magic Woman was NOT first "perfomed" (whatever that is...) by Santana. It was written by Peter Green of Fleetwood Mac, and first performed by the group, release as a single in 1968, two years before Santana's version.
