The person who shot and attempted to kill Bob Marley remains nameless to this day. It is believed that one of the culprits was killed by local people who discovered his involvement, the others are still unkown. The theft of marijuana is considered an unlikely motivation, as the gunmen's actions suggested only the desire to kill Bob. The assination attempt was believed to be politically motivated at the time, though whether it was from left of right wing was a matter of debate. Evidence since, including testimony of a former CIA agent, has suggested the CIA supplied weapons for this attack and may have been involved in motivating it. The CIA have, to date, refused to de-classify any of their files and information regarding Bob Marley or offered explanation as to why they have classified files on him.
The line from the song is, 'I shot the sheriff, but I did'nt shoot no deputy' This line is repeated in the song, so no-one shot the deputy. Not so! Clearly somebody shot the deputy. It wasn't Bob or Eric, and I know I didn't do it so that narrows it down a bit. If you didn't shoot the deputy then add yourself as NOT GUILTY. Eventually we'll catch the culprit.
He did not shoot anyone. The song, "I Shot The Sheriff," was first performed in 1973 on the Burnin' album by the Wailers. It was written by Bob Marley in the reggae style, and was an attempt to illustrate justice.

Bob Marley. He did not have a boyfriend. He was NOT gay. So i don't know what you are talking about him having a boyfriend. Bob Marley was murdered by his wife and he did do the song I Shot the Sheriff. That was the only part that was right.
I think the only song Eric Clapton did of Bob Marley's was I Shot The Sheriff.
Probably his best known song would be "I shot the Sheriff"
