Either your version of Windows has the (.DLL) coding to recognise the keyboard or you are out of luck. Going into the 'add hardware' screen should give you a answer.
The best keyboard to use with a laptop is the one that comes with your laptop, baring that there are a wide array of fold up or wireless keyboard.
They don't need any, receiving their power from the cable that attaches them to the computer. The exception is the wireless keyboard, which typically used 2 AA batteries.

Any wireless keyboard will work with a Mac. However the very best is the Apple wireless keyboard and Apple Magic Mouse. They are bluetooth and just work with no additional hardware or software.
