∙ 12y agoIn 1958, Izola Ware Curry stabbed Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. with a 7" letter opener at his book signing in Harlem, New York. She was a homeless vagrant who had spent years in and out of mental hospitals. Doctors stated after the surgery that the envelope opener lodged in his chest near his aorta in such a way that he may have died if he so much as sneezed! And after all this it was a black lady that had been looking for him for 5 years, that is what she said before she stabbed him. When he was in hospital they had to cut away 2 of his ribs to remove the letter opener.
