I'll answer this question with a question. Are we being asked who translated The Bible into Greek, giving us the Septuagint version? Or are we being asked who translated the Septuagint version into English? The answer to both questions is translators. You know, people who understand both Hebrew and Greek or both Greek and English. All kidding aside, legend has it that the twelve tribes of Israel had six scholars each separated into different groups to translate the Old Testament into Greek because, at that time, only scholars were still fluent in Hebrew. The Greek empire had dominated the Hebrews and forced their culture upon them, so much so that Hebrew had almost become an extinct language. So, sometime around 200 BC, the Jews wanting their people to be able to read their scriptures, had them translated into the language that they would all understand. They used seventy two different translators, separated into different groups, so that they could compare the results as a method to determine accuracy. Again, as legend has it, all the different translation groups had perfectly identical versions. This "miracle" was all the proof they needed to confirm that they had a reliable translation to give to their people. This is one answer that is accepted by many people. However, other scholars have the opinion that the translation occurred sometime later, maybe even 400 years later, and that there was no "miracle" of six exact translations occurring. You pick which answer you want to believe, because I don't know which is correct. Maybe their both wrong. By the way, the name "Septuagint" means seventy, which is supposedly in reference to the seventy plus translators involved.
